My mother lived at Carefree Assisted living for a year or so. She was under Hospice Care at the time. She was bedridden and unable to transfer to a wheelchair. The staff at Carefree gave her excellent care and were very supportive of her. She passed away this March 4, 2023 in her sleep. I cleaned out her room in two days and donated many things of my mom's to the facility. I asked for a rent refund and that is where my dissatisfaction comes into play. I live in Minnesota and wasn't able to be in Arizona to monitor the return of my refund. I was told by the manager that they needed to confer with the bookkeeper and that I would hear back from them. I asked for the bookkeepers name & phone number but they couldn't or wouldn't supply it. I waited a couple of days as I had not heard anything and I left a message for Monique Joy, Manager, to please call me regarding my refund. She never returned my calls but had instructed her assistant manager Tara, to tell me she had mailed the check. It never arrived. I called again & later was told it was overnighted. It still didn't arrive. I have had to make multiple phone calls that rendered conflicting information from the Manager about my refund. My check which had been signed by Monique Joy finally arrived April 18, 2023. It was very stressful to me and I had just lost my mother. Monique Joy, Manager, of Carefree A.L. handled this incident in a very unprofessional manner. Be aware this is how they treat out of state family members!

My 91 year old mother fell in June 21, 2017, was rushed to the emergency room at Verde Valley Medical Center. She injured her left knee badly and fractured her right wrist, surgery for her wrist was out of the questions due to her age. She was also diagnosed with dementia so going back home was also out of the question. After Verde Valle Medical Center, she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation and physical therapy several times each day. My mother became depressed, angry and would not eat. I started researching facilities and was very fortunate to find Carefree Assisted Living, a facility with a wonderful reputation. I scheduled a tour, met with Gary Wilsher, owner and Monique Joy, Assistant Director Administration. I was highly impressed with the facility and staff members I met that day. The facility is immaculate, the residents are treated with dignity and respect. Residents speak very highly of the staff and always mention the great food as well as how much they enjoy living at Carefree. We transferred my mother to Carefree on August 9. She is calm, relaxed, the staff at Carefree make sure she eats. Arturo and Sandra Bernal are awesome, they are caring, kind people who obviously care about the well being of the residents. The staff at Carefree deserve high praise for the wonderful work they do. I am very thankful we found this great facility.

The best way to find a good assisted living facility for a loved one is experience, this I have acquired over the years with my Father and more recently my friend Carol. Ask many of the same questions directed to different people, make frequent visits at all times of day and listen to what other people say about the facility you are thinking about. I did all the above before moving my friend into Carefree Assisted Living in Cottonwood, AZ--they passed my very strict testing with flying colors. Carol has been with Carefree Assisted Living for two years this December and I cannot begin to "sing enough praises" or say enough wonderful things about the owners, Gary and Lisa and their fantastic and very caring Staff. I just returned from a 3+ week vacation overseas. Not once did I worry about my friend, I knew she was with the best of care. I did alert Management and a number of the Staff who I speak with often that I would be gone. I am also out of state spring and fall for two weeks at a time, I never worry, I know my Friend has the best of care. Thank you to Gary, Lisa and the AMAZING TEAM at Carefree Assisted Living for being the Best of the Best, I would sincerely be lost without you. God Bless--

Belated thanks to the management team at Carefree Assisted Living Center for showing us and our elderly Aunt Selma around your facility last month. And thank you for inviting us to join your residents for a wonderful well-prepared dinner. During our tour we couldn’t help but notice how clean everything was, including the residents’ rooms and bathrooms, as well as the kitchen and main dining area. The courtyard patio and garden areas surrounding Carefree were all clean and nicely trimmed. Truly a warm and inviting place to be! We spoke directly with some of the residents at dinner, and were pleased to know just how happy and satisfied they were residing in your facility. Another plus was the warmth and friendliness of the staff. Now we are just waiting to get our finances together, and then with your acceptance, bring Selma to your facility. Many thanks again to your manager for showing us around, and answering all of our questions. Best regards,

The first time I approached Carefree Assisted Living Center I was struck by the wonderful decorations at the entrance. So cheerful, colorful and fun! It felt like I was walking into someone's home, not into a senior care facility. Several years ago, both of my grand mothers were placed in assisted living centers. Neither of those facilities were as comfortable and welcoming as Carefree Assisted Living Center. I work with this facility as their bookkeeper and visit several times each month. Every time I come to the facility I find myself feeling like I am entering a happy home. The staff greet me with a smile and a happy attitude while attending to resident's needs. The garden and landscaping are meticulously cared for and the common areas, as well as the resident's rooms are well kept and clean. The television is usually on in the common area and the birds are chirping away in the background. I stop by at different times of the day but that makes no difference in anyone's attitude or the general welcoming atmosphere. As an outside observer of the facility, I am genuinely impressed with the true demonstration of caring love and compassion that the owners Gary & Lisa, give to the residents and their families as well as the staff and the business.
